      • Some of the speakers from IntraTeam Event Copenhagen 2018 have answered questions regarding the intranet/digital workplace in the future. Below you can read what the speakers think about the question “Will there be any changes to who is responsible for intranet/digital workplace in 3 years?”.

     

      • Adrian Gagala – dormakaba:
        This has already happened. The essence of a Social Intranet is to find a core team to bring this to life and to support it from there in an ongoing mission. It is not about Communications or IT alone. We have a name for them, these are our “Communication Heroes”.

     

        • Alexander Kluge – Kluge Consulting:
          Idealistic, everybody will be in charge. Because everybody is author and reader, everybody will contribute and consume content.

       

          • Alistair Pugin – Britehouse:
            I think it will become more decentralized than it is currently. Smaller groups of people interacting with each other through chat based information management, rather than the structured hierarchical engagements we see currently.

         

            • Alvaro Felipe Moerzinger – Euroclear:
              In the last few years, we have seen the intranet evolve from a static one to a social collaborative one, commonly referred to ‘enterprise 2.0’. In the next three years, I see the intranet continuing to evolve creating a holistic integrated ecosystem. Intranets will become employees entry points to all their working tools. By creating a digital workplace, employees will work more efficiently, increase collaboration and adapt to the working habits of employees. Intranets will become tool agnostics, allowing staff to access it through an arrange of devices.

           

              • Dennis Agusi – Philips:
                I think it will continue to be a shared responsibility between Comms, HR and IT. I do think that more and more departments want to have a say in the intranet strategy. A proper governance can help to ensure that we take the voice of the different departments into account.

             

                • Geert Nijs – KBC Group:
                  Although the IT department will stay strongly involved as an infrastructure provider, a community of several disciplines will be responsible. Next to internal comms, HR will join eventually!

               

                  • Maish R. Nichani – PebbleRoad:
                    It depends on the maturity and ambition of the organization to use digital to drive change. For organisations that are undergoing digital transformation, the intranet becomes and important concept to see the value of the change internally. If this is the case, then the intranet may come under a digital services unit.

                 

                    • Jon May – University of Westminster
                      Not for the foreseeable future, although HR will definitely become more involved.

                   

                      • Katharina Krentz – Bosch Group:
                        Everybody is responsible for a lively digital workplace. I hope to see HR, IT, Communications, Marketing, Corporate Strategy and Employer Branding working together to continuously improve it.

                     

                        • Marc Wright – simply-communicate:
                          IC will have a bigger role.

                       

                          • Martin Stubbs-Partridge – Scottish Natural Heritage:
                            We made a significant change when implementing our site, moving ownership from IT to Communications.

                         

                            • Scott Fulton – Large Public Sector Organisation:
                              Hopefully – organisations are slowly learning the importance of user focused digital teams that strike a balance between understanding user needs (pull content) and news (push content).

                           

                              • Stefan Bitzer – Volkswagen Group:
                                Communication department and IT will get closer together and work as one team.

                             

                                • Tracy van der Schyff – The Guid Stuff:
                                  Absolutely! SharePoint Online is allowing for power users to update and make changes, we’ll be moving away from over customized, difficult to maintain sites. This will cause ownership to move away from IT to business as it should be.

                               

                                  • Michael Taylor – Deutsche Bank:
                                    Not huge changes, but increasingly devolved to users. The overall ownership might still be contested between IT, HR, Classic Communications or COO.

                                 

                                    • Wil Arndt – OpenRoad Communications:
                                      While it varies from organization to organization, overall we’re going to see an increase of “sanctioned decentralization” at organizations over the next few years. This means that while dedicated intranet managers and gatekeepers aren’t going anywhere, their role will be more about helping the most relevant content bubble up to those who need it. They’ll do more facilitating and connecting areas of the organization—which includes socializing brand and tone guidelines and best practices—and less crafting and publishing the content seen on the intranet. Meanwhile, more power will be released to business units and departments within the organization, who will need to start training employees on how to best promote the work being done within their teams and their culture.

                                   

                                      • Andrew Pope – Innosis:
                                        The question is who is responsible today? The intranet has many overlapping functions. Comms, IT, collaboration, KM, HR, teams… Making more directly aligned with corporate strategy, client growth and innovation provides an opportunity to maximise our teams and their conversations.

                                     

                                        • Chris Tubb – Chris Tubb Consulting Services:
                                          I believe in stewardship. You don’t need to own something to be its custodian. Digital Workplace teams will increasingly work on this common basis.

                                       

                                          • Sam Marshall – ClearBox:
                                            I see more ‘Head of employee Experience’ roles being created and the digital workplace is a good fit for this.

                                         

                                            • Scott D McArthur – Sculpture Consulting:
                                              Possibly like our devises it will become more “bring your own”.

                                           

                                              • Steve Bynghall – Two Hives:
                                                I don’t see much change at the moment, perhaps an emphasis on more IT involvement as Office 365 and the digital workplace concept become more popular.

                                                  Democratized to allow greater content creators.

                                                  It’s definitely coming, the question is only when and in what format. I think what we can see today is just scratching the surface.

                                               

                                              • Jonas Bladt Hansen – Arla Foods
                                                I believe that the most forward thinking companies have established an employee experience to ensure a coherent brand experience. The unit will be responsible for both identify important employee touchpoints that are decisive in defining the experience of being an employee in that company. Here the Intranet will play an important role as it is a central player in shaping the work experience in the everyday life of an employee.
